Download free PDF Step by step guide 1.Make sure you have everything you need. We made our bedhead using 12 mm MDF fibreboard. Bedhead suggested dimensions: 90 cm high and 140 cm wide.2.Measure and mark button positions on the fibreboard. Drill holes for the buttons. Use a wood drill bit. The number of buttons is entirely up to you.3.Cut or saw the flexible foam to fit the fibreboard. The foam should extend 1 cm beyond the edge of the top and sides. This gives a nice soft edge when the fabric is attached. Affix the foam firmly using a glue gun. NB: Here we chose not to let the foam extend all the way down to the base of the fibreboard as the lower edge of the bedhead is concealed behind the mattress.4.Cut fabric. Add about 12 cm for turnings. Press the fabric. Lay the fibreboard on the fabric with the foam side next to the fabric. Attach the fabric: Staple along the long sides first. Then staple along the short sides. Pull the fabric taut as you work.5.At the corners, pull the fabric to the back and pull firmly around the corners. For a neat finish, trim off any excess fabric.6.Pull the fabric taut and staple it securely into place. Check to ensure that the fabric is smooth and taut on the front.7.Cover the buttons. Follow the instructions on the pack. Use strong upholstery thread. Lay the upholstery thread double and sew through the pre-drilled holes. It helps to use a long needle to find the holes.8.Weave in thread ends on the back of the bedhead. Pull threads taut. Check on the front that the buttons are attached firmly.
