Safety for homemade pacifier chains: What you need to know
Go handmade pacifier clips with holes are often used for pacifier chains, and therefore they are tested to meet the relevant requirements of the safety standard for pacifier chains (EN 12586+A1).
This means, among other things, that the holes are placed correctly and have the right sizes, and that it does not break in the standard strength test.
If you mount a pacifier clip on a crocheted pacifier chain, make sure that the chain is not longer than 22cm when pulled. The 22cm is the length from where the cord goes through the loop on the clip and down to and including the end of the pacifier fastener. It is a good idea to keep an eye on the chain in use so that it does not get pulled longer than the 22cm. We recommend that you always crochet tightly when making a chain for pacifiers and/or make a shorter chain from the start.

Always carefully check your pacifier chain before use. Discard the pacifier chain at the first sign of damage or wear. Never extend the pacifier chain. Never tie the pacifier chain to cords, ribbons, or loose parts of clothing, as the child may choke.

Do not use the pacifier chain when the child is in a bed, crib, or playpen. Do not attach it to anything other than the child's clothing and remove the pacifier chain when not in use. Use only the clothing fastener to attach the pacifier chain - never use a safety pin, for example. Do not use the pacifier chain as a toy or teething ring.
