Download free PDF Step by step guide 1.Cut 7 pieces of cardboard and 7 pieces of fabric using the templates2.3.Tack each piece of fabric onto a cardboard template using a contrasting coloured thread. Leave a long tail of thread on the right side of the fabric. If you wish, you can secure the fabric temporarily to the cardboard using wonder clips or water-soluble glue pen.4.Sew hexagon sides together using small, even stitches, see Figure 1. Sew the patchwork flower pieces together in alphabetical order: Sew row 1 first, then row 2 and finally row 3. Then sew the three rows together.5.Remove tacking stitches and cardboard hexagons. Press the appliqué, leaving the outside edges folded (as they were folded on the template).6.Carefully lay the finished patchwork on the garment and tack to prevent it from slipping. Sew the appliqué along the edges using invisible stitches. For a decorative finish, top stitch by hand using quilting thread or embroidery yarn (see figure 2).
