What is wales?
A wale number gives you an idea of the width of the ribs in the corduroy which determines the feel of the fabric. When you see a wale number given for a corduroy it tells you how many ribs per inches it has.
A low wale number means wider ribs and a high wale number means smaller ribs. For instance a 4 wale corduroy will feel dense while the ribs of a 21 wale corduroy will make it feel more fine.
