How to make a dragon (or dinosaur) costume
This costume is based on our basic pattern: square, which we've sewn up in warm, dark green fleece. The belly of the suit is cut out in mint fleece, which we have attached with vliesofix.
How to make the spikes
Cut a long wide strip for the felt spikes. The strip should be approximately 8 cm wide and as long as the side of the suit. Cut triangular notches in one side of the strip and sew them to the edge of the suit, along the side.
How to make the wings
Draw the wings freehand on patterned paper. The wings should be the same width as the suit. Here we have made the wings in mint fleece. The wings have been given a three-dimensional look by folding the fabric at the tip and then sewing it down in separate, parallel stitches with approximately 1 cm between stitches. This would create small "channels" or pleats along each wingtip.
We've sewn the wings onto the back and shoulder, which makes the wings stand out from the body instead of just hanging flat down the child's back.
